Both work great, but the 405 is cheaper. Black Butterfly Ammunition loads these bullets to 2.053 OAL in the socom. This puts the base of the bullet at the bottom of the neck. I plan on using this OAL and data from the Lyman AR Reloading handbook on 350 plated bullets. This is listed as 32.5 min 35.8 max for IMR4198. Make sure you always start low and work up, the socom is unforgiving. The load data contained in this document is intended for use with specific components. Other manufacturers components may not produce equivalent pressure or velocities; therefore, it is recommended that the user be familiar with the basic rules of reloading safety. The SOCOM is still a very specialized round, and I don't recall having yet seen it in a printed loading manual. Your best bet will probably be hitting the load data section of the .458 SOCOM forums. Jul 3, 2012 · Re: 458 socom 500gr load thanks for the help. i have gotten this under comtrol finally. the issue was using to little powder in the case with a primer that was not lighting off hot enough. mistakes-not using enough powder , found loads and backed off 10% WAY TO LIGHT could have been bad not using correct primers for load data .
